On-campus and virtual interviewing
We will be participating in virtual on-campus interviews at several law schools, and look forward to meeting many of you through your school’s official interview program. For those schools we are unable to visit or if your school allows for early interviews, we have partnered with Cappfinity, a video interviewing platform. Cappfinity allows us to conduct our first meeting virtually and allows you the flexibility to record your screen interview from any place, at any time.
The video interview is intended to provide you with the opportunity to show us who you are, while bringing your written application to life, and simulating a traditional face-to-face on-campus interview. We will provide you with advice and tips on how to make the best of your video interview. We know the recruiting season is a busy time and a prompt response is helpful, so we will review your application and get back to you in a timely manner.

What we look for
We look for highly motivated individuals with excellent academic credentials, significant personal achievements and a strong commitment to the practice of law in a global and diverse law firm. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate evidence of our core competencies, which include excellent judgment, client readiness, drive, initiative and an entrepreneurial mindset.
We are looking for people with the ability to work collaboratively in high-pace high-stakes situations. We view the interview process as a two-way street, and our goal is for you to get as much information as possible about our Firm and our training programs so that you can make the best decision about where to start your career.
Training and mentoring
Mentoring
Lawyer mentors will give guidance, answers and help you engage with all aspects of the Summer Program. Talk to them about the type of work you would like to do and they will help make your summer experience as positive and productive as possible.
Sophisticated work
Summer associates work on the same types of challenging client assignments as first- and second-year associates. You will have the opportunity to tailor your summer associate experience by letting us know early on what practice areas and pro bono matters you are interested in. Our program is designed to ensure that you receive a broad range of training and meet with a variety of lawyers over the course of the summer.
Two-way feedback
The lawyers you work with will evaluate you on your work quality, verbal and written communications skills, initiative and ability to work with others. Our open-door policy allows you to always get informal feedback. We will discuss your progress—and your questions or comments—in mid-summer and end-of-summer reviews.
Your first year
The First-Year Instruction
The First-Year Instruction series (FYI) is a new program designed to support associates throughout their first year and aid in their professional development. It provides a foundation for future years and eases the transition into the second year.
Learn more about our Foundational Milestone Program (FoMi) for a glimpse of your first year as an associate.
Practice Area Placement
Throughout the Summer Program, you will have the opportunity to work on matters in a variety of practice areas. At the end of the summer, you will be asked to rank your practice area preferences. Once you receive a full-time offer, the Firm then will communicate in which practice area you will be placed as a first year.
In most of our US offices, our first year associates are placed directly into a practice area. In Houston and New York, first year associates are part of either a Corporate or Litigation Pool with two main focus areas (called a major and a minor) in which they will receive the majority of their assignments. Your interests, business need and feedback during the summer are all taken into account when making practice area placement decisions. Those in a Pool for their first year will be placed into either their major or minor around May of the following year.
Mentoring & Shadowing Program
This program provides first year associates with substantive shadowing opportunities with assigned mentors. Through this program, our US associates receive exposure to client interactions and work they may not otherwise experience during two fourteen-week rotations. At the conclusion of the first rotation, associates will be assigned to another lawyer for a second shadowing period. This format leads to better integration for the associates and a more meaningful mentoring experience with work opportunities and our clients as the centerpiece.

We have a diverse, enriching and enjoyable work culture. Our lawyers represent 125 nationalities and speak 92 languages, which is vital to our ability to effectively represent our diverse clients throughout the world.
